Apple expects to unveil a new iPhone 14 in an event which may also feature some other new products. Apple is certainly going to unveil a new iPhone 14 sometime in September, but it is not entirely certain the iPhone 14 will be the star of the show at Apples iPhone 14 launch event. We are expecting that the new iPhone 14 Pro will headline the upcoming Apple event, but there are likely to be some other new products coming as well.
New Apple Products
While new iPhones, the Apple Watch, and AirPods Pro already are to be on display for Apples annual fall iPhone-centric event, there are new iPads also in the works, but it is unclear whether Apple will unveil those devices during Septembers event, or if they will reserve those for a second event, which potentially could happen in October. While rumors say that two events may be coming, splitting the slate between iPhones and the Apple Watch for the September event and iPads and the Mac for Octobers, it is not clear what is going to happen with AirPods. Reports suggest there will be two events, placing the Mac changes at the side of the iPad in the October event, leaving the September for iPhone and Apple Watch.
Last year, Apple launched the new iPhones and Apple Watches in an September event, and then followed that with an October launch that included the iPads and the Mac. Those September events have started to look really smooth, but also very similar, over the years, so maybe Apple will want to put some emotion in this one, and to tease something completely new. This years event is nearly upon us; we expect Apple to reveal their iPhone 14 line, along with at least a couple of new Apple Watches, in this weeks livestreamed presentation.
The undisputed center of the show will be its lineup of iPhone 14s (unless Apple goes crazy and names a different phone). Aside from the high probability of an iPhone 14 headlining the show, expect Apple to announce some other products at Apples second hardware-focused event of 2022. Yes, Apples iPhone keynote event is set for early September, meaning that is about time the company will reveal a boatload of new products, the main one being its lineup of new iPhones for the current year. Heres what we could expect to see during Apples launch event for iPhone 14.
By my count, this unveiling would mark the first Apple in-person product launch since fall 2019, when Apple showed off the iPhone 11. Although the Apple Spring Event is the first event of 2022 for Apple, it will still be a digital-only event, without media members invited in-person to participate because of the ongoing pandemic. Apple is expected to revert to Apples previous schedule before the pandemic, holding a September iPhone event followed by a separate event in October to show off its new iPads and Macs. The last event was Apples Sept. 7, 2022 event, in which Apple launched the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Plus, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which will replace Apples current lineup of flagship phones, and the AirPods Pro 2 as its new top-tier headphones.
Previous Apple iPhone Events
Previous Apple events have included the highly anticipated AirTags, iPad Pro (2021) featuring the Apple M1 chip, a 24″ iMac also featuring M1, a new 4K Apple TV (2021), and an attractive new purple shade for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 12 mini. The previous Apple event was held on March 8, 2022, when Apple announced an entire range of new products, from the iPhone SE 3, updated iPad Air (5th Generation), the new Studio and Studio Display Macs, and the new green color option for the iPhone 13.
Apple used WWDC 2022 to show Apples software, iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, and watchOS 9 — this covered the software side of things, in order to clear the way for the new hardware, namely iPhone 14, Apple Watch 8, a possible new Mac Mini M2 (since it was missing from WWDC), and maybe (but not likely) a refreshed iPad Pro M2 too.
The exception for this past decade was 2020, where the September launches focused on Apples Watch and iPad lines, October was about iPhones and the HomePod mini, and November was the Mac Month. Apple has released a new iPhone each September (except in 2020, when a pandemic delayed things by one month), and we do not expect things to change much in 2022.
Apple September Event
The first event will focus on new iPhone(s) and Apple Watch(es) – and Apple confirmed it will take place September 7th – while the second event is more likely to focus on new iPad(s) and Macs. Apple typically holds a closer-to-Christmas event, along with the Apple iPhone 14 event, and this is where we would expect to see Apples AirPods Pro 2, probably alongside a new iPad Pro using the same M2 chip that powers the new MacBook Air. If you are waiting for the release of the next Apple Big Thing, this is always the question — and while right now, there are no confirmed future Apple events (because Apple just held their huge Far Out September event), we can forecast when the next one is most likely, based on Apples history and their rumored plans.
