Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the new talk of the town for various reasons. The flip phone, when it first came out, took everyone by surprise, and it speaks volumes about Samsung’s innovation and knack for leading the smartphone race.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is an enhanced version of the original Galaxy Z Flip, and it features some fantastic upgrades.
Whether it’s the design, colors, or specifications, the Z Flip 3 looks like the real deal. It features some significant upgrades from the first-gen Galaxy Z Flip phones, and the new features are worth a look. On top of that, Samsung somehow managed a price cut, too, making it a lot more affordable than the previous versions.
So, if you’re a flip fan, find out all about the new sensation among Samsung Flip Phones.
Why Not Z Flip 2?
A lot of followers ask why this phone is not called the Z Flip 2. There are two main reasons for the name. Firstly, the original Z Flip had a minor revised version, the Z Flip 5G, where Samsung modified the phone’s chipset to provide 5G support. So, technically, it’s not the second Z Flip phone.
Secondly, Z Flip 3 means that it’s now aligned with the Samsung Galaxy Fold line. So, the flip phone won’t appear as older tech among the foldable phones.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Release Date
Flip fans have been anticipating the release of the Z Flip 3 smartphone. Samsung presented the Galaxy Z Flip 3 at the 10th August Galaxy Unpacked event. The unpacking event also featured Galaxy Buds 2 headphones and Galaxy Watch 4 series. Later, the sales for Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 began on 27th August in most markets.
How Much Does Galaxy Z Flip 3 Cost?
For a design so new and unmatched, Galaxy Z Flip 3 has quite a competitive price. The 128 GB model costs $999, while the 256 GB model goes for $1049. Compared to the previous Galaxy Z Flip phones like the original Z Flip and Galaxy Z Flip 5G, it is remarkably cheaper and features quite a few upgrades.
What’s New in the Galaxy Flip 3
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes with significant upgrades and apparent changes in the design and color range. While there are many notable changes in the latest model, here are some of the most obvious ones.
Galaxy Z Flip 3 is notably different from the original Galaxy Z Flip. Now, you will find a variety of intriguing colors like black, cream, lavender, and green, so the mirror finishes from the first generation are no longer there.
The limited-edition exclusive range also offers pink, grey, and white finishes, which feature a dual-tone frame. These phones are exclusively available on Samsung’s official site only.
However, the regular Z Flip 3 also features a two-tone design thanks to a sizable black element containing the two camera lenses and cover display on the phone’s front. It also masks the screen when the display is not on.
First Waterproof Rated Foldable Design
Galaxy Z Flip 3 has a waterproof rating, and it’s the first-of-its-kind phone to have it. It’s one of the significant upgrades offering IPX8, i.e., a strong level 8 protection against water. However, it’s yet to be tested for dust, hence the ‘X’ rating.
The original Z Flip 3 was quite delicate, and it was understandable too. At the time, Samsung had no reference for flip phone durability, so it’s only logical that the new Galaxy Z Flip 3 is more durable than the previous model.
It features the ‘Armour Aluminium’ frame, which experts believe is 10% more durable if you compare it with the Z Flip original.
Moreover, the Z Flip 3 exterior features Gorilla Glass Victus, which is the toughest glass quality. In addition to the screen, the cameras also feature Gorilla glass DX protection mainly fabricated for lenses.
The Z Flip 3 features a dual display like the previous model. The first display features the same size and resolution as the AMOLED display. However, it features a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
On the exterior AMOLED display, there are some notable changes, though. The Cover Display is now bigger with a 1.9-inch display. In addition, it’s an upgrade from the previous 1.1 inches with a resolution of 512 x 260.
Thanks to a larger Cover Display, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 can now display full messages and notifications, and you can enjoy the widgets and animated background on this display too.
There is no upgrade as far as the lenses are concerned. So, there is a 12Mp, f/1.8 primary lens that pairs with a 12 Mp, f/2.2 ultrawide lens. Also, the 10Mp, f/2.4 selfie camera hasn’t changed much from the previous version.
Even though it may seem disappointing for the fans who were hoping for a camera upgrade, it’s the reason how Samsung has managed to afford a price cut in the upgraded phone.
Major Spec Upgrades
Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes through a series of spec upgrades from the previous versions. First, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, which is a noticeable upgrade from the older ones. Since Snapdragon 888 now works with 5G, the Z Flip 3 also features 5G support.
There is 8GB RAM with options of 128 GB and 256 GB UFS storage. Unfortunately, it’s not a dual sim phone, but there is optional e-sim support.
Charging and Battery
There is nothing new in charging, even though it was anticipated that the new model would boast a 25W faster-charging capability. However, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 supports 15W wired and 10W wireless charging, the same as the original Z Flip.
Likewise, it has the same 3300mAh battery with a two-cell setup. However, fans are optimistic that software optimizations will help the battery to last longer.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 seems like a mixed bag when it comes to feature upgrades. It’s definitely more durable and more versatile in looks. The battery and camera specs may feel like a drawback, but it’s all that makes the phone more affordable than the original Galaxy Z Flip.
