Oura Ring Review 2022

The Take On TechThe Take On Tech—August 30, 20220

This Oura Ring Review features one of the best wearables athletes and fitness enthusiasts are using to monitor their health and sleep. The Oura Ring Gen 3 is capable of a few helpful pieces of health monitoring, things that you might expect from a fitness tracker. If you are looking for a sleep tracker, an activity tracker, or simply someone who wants to learn as much about their body as possible, then its Gen 3 ring ticks many of your boxes, all in a small package. Here is all you should know about the Oura Ring in this Oura Ring Review 2022.

A deep look into the Oura Ring

Like its second-generation ring, the third-generation ring has a 3-D accelerometer that, according to Oura, automatically detects and tracks over 30 different activities. It packs more sensors into its similarly stealthy design than its predecessor, and offers improved health-monitoring features, including 24-hour heart-rate monitoring, better temperature monitoring, and period forecasting, with future updates promising the addition of nighttime SpO2 sensing and improvements to its sleep tracking. Its third-generation smart ring looks gorgeous, data feels robust and useful, and is perfect if you prefer your monitoring done discreetly. There is obviously no screen built into this ring, so you will need to head over to the Oura companion app to view the stats and progress of the day-to-day activity tracking.

Oura Ring And Health

Oura tracks your exercise and activity levels (including over 70 different modes of activity tracking), sleep, and recovery time for the body, and can even track your periods, should you decide to take advantage of the feature. It features 24-hour heart-rate tracking and seven temperature sensors, which combine to create an overall, and very accurate, picture of your health at any given moment. The Oura Ring also tracks your heart rate, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, steps taken, and calories burned, along with body temperature. Oura Ring Gen 3 analyzes your sleep, activities, body temperature, heart rate, and heart rate variability (HRV) – all of which help it to gauge your general readiness for the day.

The Oura Ring Generation 3 is an unabashedly health device, tracking your movements, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and skin temperature passively as you go about your day, then piecing together all of the data it gathers into actionable insights within its companion app. Oura Ring Generation Three is an updated version of this Oura philosophy, a $299 wearable smart ring with a $5.99-per-month subscription that puts recovery and sleep at the forefront, and makes grand claims to its ability to predict menstrual cycles.

As the wearables market continues to expand, Ouras wearable health tracking ring has taken a major leap forward with the launch of its third-generation ring, which now offers features such as period prediction and blood oxygen monitoring, along with exercise monitoring and heart rate monitoring during the day. Since hitting the smart technology market several years ago, Ouras health tracker ring has gained A-list fans including Prince Harry, Kim Kardashian, and Jennifer Aniston, along with an army of NBA players intrigued by its apparent ability to catch illnesses early by tracking your body temperature.

Other features of the Oura Ring that gets our attention

The third-generation Oura Ring, according to Oura Health, offers a unique ability to measure minute-by-minute changes in body temperature, helping women precisely predict their menstrual cycles, and potentially detect when someone is getting sick. Oura Gen 3 is the third-generation wearable from Oura, which tracks your sleep, activity, and alertness using sensors — tiny nubs inside of the ring — and, over time, gives you more detailed trends and insights about your health.

The most interesting feature regarding sleep, IMO, is that my Oura Ring learns your sleep patterns, and from nights where you had the best sleep, shares personalized recommendations about when you should begin to relax for better sleep quality. If anything, the faux ring makes you more conscious about sleep quality, and how just a couple nights of poor sleep could actually impact your health.

The Oura Ring has Health Benefits

It may help to give a great jumping-off point to ways you can improve your sleep, recovery, and general well-being. The faux ring can help lead the way in improving sleep, which is one of the most neglected aspects of health. The Oura ring provides tons of insights into things you cannot see, such as the amount of time spent in each sleep stage, how long it takes to fall asleep every night, and your sleep efficiency, which is a measurement of how long in bed you are really sleeping.

It is a good tracker for tracking your sleep, but sadly, promised updates that included the ability to detect blood oxygenation (Sp02) have yet to come, nor has an improved algorithm to help with the stages of sleep. While Oura looks a bit tacky, particularly in smaller hands like mine, the ring still takes up far less real estate than any health or fitness tracker I have seen. As it rolls out new features, several of them will not work with the second-generation ring because of hardware limitations.

Wrapping Up

If you are considering buying one, remember once you have sucked up $299 for a ring, you are looking at $72 per year in order to fully utilize the features in the Oura. That is the thing with a fitness/healthy wearable, such as Oura Ring Gen Three or Apple Watch: The preventative costs are actually significantly lower than the medical bills when your body has broken down. This Oura ring review highlights how Oura recommends wearing their third-generation ring for two weeks to build up a baseline of data, which you can then use to track changes.
